The
teaching and learning process must be carried out in a good and conducive
atmosphere. Students in the class feel at home taking part; each of them must
support good learning. However, class can be a bad condition while students
feel depressed. One of the triggers is bullying carried out by them consciously
or unconsciously. Their intention is to be cheerful, but it can be exaggerating
so that this condition creates problems in their learning in the classroom.
Oppression itself is seen as part of aggressive behavior (Olweus, 1999), which
is expressed openly and directly. For those who feel stressed out of bullying,
it will have an adverse effect on them which ends in suicide.
Bullying
is often a fear for students, parents, and educators. According to Frey and
Fisher (2008), bullying has become a persistent part of school life and can be
very difficult to avoid. Therefore, a number of cases of bullying that occur in
schools have become their own fears in the world of education. Therefore, it is
important for parents and education circles to recognize the bullying that
occurs in students to prevent something worse. As for some of the symptoms of
bullying that we can see in plain view such as being reluctant to go to school,
often getting sick suddenly, experiencing impairment, nightmares or even difficulty
sleeping, etc. Psychologically, those
actions will have a negative impact on the child.
Bullying
that often occurs in the school environment is violence perpetrated by seniors
to juniors. The seniors put pressure on the juniors and even seniors who had
the heart to persecute their juniors. Therefore, if bullying behavior occurs
within the school environment, learning motivation which is one of the
important factors in implementing the learning process and student achievement
will be disrupted. According to Biggs and Tefler (in Dimyati and Mudjiono,
2006), students' learning motivation that becomes weak and lacks motivation or
lack of learning motivation will weaken activities, so the quality of learning
achievement will be low.
Besides of influencing the development of learning, bullying can also affect psychological development. According to Coloroso (2007), bullying is an act of
intimidation carried out repeatedly by the stronger party against the weaker
party, carried out intentionally and aims to hurt the victim physically and
emotionally. As a result of something done repeatedly, children who are victims
of bullying have a higher risk of depression and anxiety. This easily anxious
feeling does not only occur when they are still victims, it gets worse as they
grow older. In addition, victims of bullying will shut themselves down from
people because they think that no one else can be trusted or love them. Even
they will feel always insecure wherever they are. And the worst is being able
to act as perpetrators of bullying.
